If you don’t want to cook for your holiday receptions, why not turn to caterers or meal boxes created especially for the occasion? The options are varied to avoid arriving at Christmas with your tongue on the ground. Here are some of my recommendations for fully enjoying your loved ones in the evening.
A sure value
La Casa Grecque now offers its dishes as a catering service.

I confess: I am an inveterate fan of Casa Grecque. In this style of Greek-inspired family restaurant, the chain wins hands down. The quality of the products is consistent and I find that there is something comforting in finding the same flavors visit after visit. For several weeks, the company has been offering a catering service for gatherings of 10 people or more. The super user-friendly website allows you to order online (at least 48 hours in advance) and collect the order at a branch near you. You have the choice of opting for a turnkey package or putting together your own grilled or seafood menu. For example, a meal for 10 of chicken skewers, with rice, potatoes and salad, comes to $150 before taxes. Very good value for money. All you have to do is assemble the table and that’s it!
A little gem to discover
Les Toques Gourmandes offers different menus as a caterer, especially for the holiday season

This year I discovered Les Toques Gourmandes, a café and caterer in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures. For a birthday, we ordered hot and cold appetizers for 15 people, as well as a beautiful cake. The response was unanimous: everything was perfect! It was easy to heat and prepare, but most importantly very tasty. The employees took the allergies mentioned during our order seriously, a big plus. Les Toques also offers a gluten-free log for the festive season. Their Christmas menu, available from 1is to December 31, is tempting: salmon gravlax, pepper cream, beef Wellington as well as a log of your choice. I haven’t tasted it, but based on my experience, the quality will be impeccable. The menu costs $250 for 4 people or $500 for 8. You can order by phone (418-877-0224), online or in store.

A luxury to treat yourself to
The canapes and seafood platter particularly stand out in this Château Frontenac holiday menu.

Fairmont Le Château Frontenac once again offers sumptuous holiday menus this year to enjoy in the comfort of your home. The classics are there: roast turkey, traditional beef Wellington or lamb crown, accompanied by a selection of soups, vegetables and potatoes, in addition to a Christmas log by Joël Lahon. The Château brigade has also prepared a new cocktail dinner offering for more festive evenings. The canapes, including foie gras parfait and sesame tuna tataki, are fabulous, as are the hummus and tapenade which quickly disappeared when I tested the menu with members of my family last week. The platter of cold meats and mature cheeses was well appreciated, but it was the seafood platter, with salmon and smoked mackerel, which stole the show. The feast, including a Christmas log, costs $275 for 4 people. Orders for the various take-out menus are made online and pickup is available on December 23, 24, 28 and 30.

Gourmet boxes
Several butcher shops or local businesses also offer boxes for the holiday season. The Hangar smokehouse, which I spoke to you about recently, offers several smoked specialties to complete your holiday menus. It includes cocktail sausages, tourtière, smoked chicken and a chipotle sugar tart ($160). Details in store.
Otherwise, the restaurant Le Quarante 7 returns this year with a 12-course dinner menu available on December 24-25-31 and 1is January. This is a great option if you want to treat yourself solo or as a duo ($79.95 or $149.95).
