The new vehicle market stalled in 2024 despite high expectations from manufacturers. And professionals, who represent 55% of registrations, do not help to increase sales. Over the first 10 months of the year, the sales figures are poor, down more than 7% compared to the same period in 2023. And the first sales to companies are ultimately a reflection of the French automobile market as a whole. : the popular tricolor car and a few foreigners trying to grab the rare places still vacant in the Top 20. Among them, a certain BMW X1 which has been a real hit since its arrival on the market, or the Toyota Yaris Cross. But the one which stands out as an exception in the 10 best sales to companies which only displays scores in bright red is none other than the Renault Austral, whose restyling is approaching (already!) and which should steal the show. here shortly at the Peugeot 3008.
The Austral has the wind at its back
Renault had never managed to really break into the compact SUV segment before the Austral. The predecessor, the Kadjar, was devoured by its lion competitor who had benefited from a much more modern style thanks to the “paw” Gilles Vidal. Austral puts the ball back in the center and Renault now seems to overshadow the 3008. This is already the case on the French market but, perhaps even more symbolic and representative, among companies.
Prices do not necessarily explain the rise of the Austral which is in line with what we find on the range of the new 3008. And this includes the rents since the core range Austral Iconic starts at €408/ month while the 3008 GT is €390/month, on a similar first contribution.
But it is perhaps the engine that made the difference since the Austral offers a true hybrid mechanics while the 3008 makes the big difference between a small hybridization and the PHEV. Electricity being, for the moment, remains quite marginal in business.
