Homelessness in Charlevoix: another revealing case in Baie-Saint-Paul

In the middle of the night on Tuesday, a man was seen sleeping in the Canada Post premises in Baie-Saint-Paul. A photograph, which FM Charlevoix managed to obtain, was subsequently circulated to various stakeholders, including Mayor Michael Pilote.

“We are not used to hearing about Baie-Saint-Paul for people who sleep in public places. Usually, we talk about good restaurants, culture, the Festival,” he laments. He recalls that the situation is taken seriously by the council, which will make announcements shortly to contribute to the fight against homelessness:

Annie Bouchard, director of the Pro-Santé community center, says she has been informed of this new case of homelessness. Even if she could not confirm an intervention, in any case, her team will be able to act accordingly shortly.

In fact, at the start of the week, Pro-Santé welcomed a brand new homeless worker, through her own initiative. “We judged that the need was too dire to wait for funding,” she emphasizes in a telephone call. We’ll figure that out later. »

Remember that according to data collected by the Popular Action Front in Urban Redevelopment (FRAPRU), approximately 700 tenant households spent more than 30% of their income on housing in Charlevoix in 2021.
