With the aim of ensuring the reliability and sustainability of the electrical network in addition to meeting the current and future energy needs of the Lanaudière region, Hydro-Québec announced that it plans to build a substation and a line to 120 kilovolts (kV) in a sector encompassing the municipalities of Chertsey, Rawdon, Saint-Calixte and Sainte-Julienne.
Since 2008, the state company has begun converting the electricity network to 120 kV and everything will end in 2029 with the commissioning of a new substation which will help improve the quality of service.
The current network established at 69 kV was built in the 1960s and the planned modernization of electrical infrastructure will result in capacity and performance gains, which will be beneficial for several municipalities in Lanaudière and the Laurentians.
A virtual public meeting will be held on November 19 from 6:30 p.m. to present the purpose and study area of the project, the environmental approaches and public participation.
