The feeling of insecurity is stronger than ever in the Village district of Montreal, as citizens regularly have to deal with the worrying behavior of homeless people and individuals with consumption problems.

New images obtained by TVA Nouvelles show people breaking into a residential building in the area, then remaining inside.
These images were captured while a survey, conducted a few days ago among Village citizens, showed that more than two thirds of them consider that security has deteriorated in the neighborhood.
“Sometimes we ask ourselves questions. We want to be sure that everything is correct. We are careful, but we definitely don’t go out much in the evening,” a resident of the neighborhood told TVA Nouvelles.
Testimonies mentioning the presence of dirty syringes in the area have also increased in recent days. The owner of an apartment building on rue du Havre told TVA Nouvelles that he accidentally stuck a dirty syringe in his hand while trying to pick up his keys.
Another citizen, Daniel Mathe, reported an encounter with a person visibly under the influence of drugs in front of his apartment building.
“At one point she leaned over and all her syringes fell to the floor, with hexactos. Then there were people who wanted to come into my building – it’s still a 15-story tower – but they couldn’t get in,” he explained.
