The unemployment rate in the canton increased by 0.1 point to reach 4% at the end of October. This represents 27 more unemployed than the previous month, for a total of 3,514. There were 2,428 in the month of October in 2023. The increase compared to the previous year amounts to 44.7%.
The unemployment rate in Switzerland remained stable at 2.5%. Adjusted for seasonal variations, it stands at 2.6%, the State Secretariat for the Economy indicated on Tuesday in its monthly statement.
The rate of job seekers rose slightly, by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous minimum, to reach 4.2%. Adjusted for seasonal variations, it stands at 4.3% (+0.1 point).
The youth unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, to 2.6%. The unemployment rate for seniors stood at 2.3%, 0.1 percentage points higher than the previous month.
In October, 34,471 advertisements for vacant positions were made to the regional employment offices (ORP), a figure down by around a quarter over one year.
During the month of August, around 2,500 people exhausted their rights to unemployment benefits, an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous month. Furthermore, 278 companies had measures to reduce working hours in August, affecting 4,256 employees, or 12.3% less than in July.
