Rumors have been circulating for months, even a few years, regarding a possible mid-size pickup truck from Ram, a division of Stellantis. The brand confirmed yesterday to the Motor1 site that it was going to offer a model and that production was going to be launched in 2027. We can therefore guess the arrival of a product for the 2028 vintage.

Motor1’s confirmation followed a report from Automotive News regarding an internal message from COO Antonio Filosa discussing the new model being built at the Stellantis plant in Belvidere, Illinois. . The UAW (United Auto Workers) union announced for its part that production would begin in 2027.

Stellantis paused the Belvidere plant at the start of 2023, a move that threw any plans there into doubt. Uncertainty over the plant’s future nearly led to a strike last year.

“After meeting with the company over the past several months, last night we resolved our grievances regarding the Dodge Durango and the reopening of Belvidere,” the UAW said via a statement. Stellantis has agreed to build the next generation Durango at its Detroit plant and invest in its Jeep facilities in Ohio.

Tim Kuniskis, the big boss of Ram, has wanted this model for a long time. He is well aware that the price of pickup trucks has risen in recent years, and that more affordable models are rarer. Until recently, the company offered the Ram Classic, which offered a more accessible option to buyers, but the end of production of this model took it away from them.

As for the details regarding the new model, we will have to see what the company has in store for us, because it has not yet mentioned anything. Will we be entitled to a version adapted to our market of the Ram Rampage which is offered in Brazil? Will the company instead concoct a new vehicle for our markets?
