In 2025, «no respite for policyholders», warns neo-insurance Leocare. Like your home insurance, the cost of which is soaring, the cost of your car insurance is soaring this year. The increases in car insurance premiums are in fact between 4% and 6%, significantly more than the inflation anticipated for 2025 (+1.6%). To achieve these results, Leocare focused on the prices charged in the 100 most populous metropolitan cities in France.
Loss rate of the premises, accident-prone roads and cost of repairs higher than elsewhere
Eric Leccia, MMA agent and delegate of the General Insurance Agents of Corsica, gives his explanations: “It’s a combination of several factors that allow us to achieve this trend. Insurance companies take into account the loss experience of the locations to establish their scales. It is visibly more important in Ajaccio than elsewhere according to this study which can be explained in particular by more accident-prone roads, and the high cost of repairs and parts. There is a real problem with the cost of transport, as can be found in many other areas. On the other hand, according to our data, there is not a significant phenomenon of vehicle theft in Ajaccio.”
Difficult cohabitation between locals and tourists on the roads during the summer
In detail, it is Ajaccio which comes out on top with an average monthly price of almost 69 euros. Vénissieux closes the top 10, with a monthly payment of 56 euros, an increase of 11.44% compared to last year's rates. With 5 cities in the top 10, Ile de France is paying the heavy price of thefts and fires while Ajaccio is also paying its high summer attendance: “Insurance companies take into account the location where claims occur without distinction on the origin of the person. It goes without saying that during the summer season, there can be a number of accidents which may involve tourists, or bus companies from outside the island, for example. This may seem unfair, but the losses caused by this population can lead to an increase in prices for Ajaccians. There are also somewhat limited driving behaviors and somewhat difficult cohabitation between tourists and locals, for example in roundabouts! Afterwards, during the winter, we also have winding roads with slippery surfaces which can lead to a significant number of accidents and which only concern locals.” slips another Ajaccian insurer. For 2025, the increase in car prices in the imperial city is expected to increase by 9%.
*In its calculation, the insurance takes into account the rates indicated for the profile of a driver with at least 24 months of insurance over the last 36 months, without claims or suspension or cancellation of license, or conviction for alcohol, narcotics, hit-and-run or refusal to comply. The driver owns a Peugeot 208 (1.2 PureTech 110 Allure Eat6 CV, registered in January 2018) for strictly private use. The chosen formula is “All risks” with deductibles (50 euros for broken glass and 330 euros for damage from all accidents, theft and fire) and a ceiling of 1 million euros for driver protection.
