In the Council of Ministers on January 22, 2025, the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, highlighted the government’s priorities for the months to come.

On the five-year plan 2019-2025, Minister Moustapha Njekk Sarré, recalls “the importance of a rigorous organization to ensure the success of projects and reforms aligned with the objectives of the Senegal 2050 vision”. The government spokesperson insisted on the need for effective implementation to ensure sustainable and inclusive development.

What about the cost of electricity? The Prime Minister, in the current context of hydrocarbon production, recalled that it was crucial to reduce energy bills while improving supply. Moreover, “a committee is actively working on this issue and should propose concrete solutions by the end of January,” the government spokesperson continues to indicate, reports Le Soleil.

Then, he talked about the valorization of phosphate resources. “A national strategy is being developed to fully exploit this potential, estimated at around 2,000 billion CFA francs in turnover by 2050.”

On the air front, the difficulties encountered by Air Sénégal and AIBD SA were also discussed. The Prime Minister affirmed that “solutions are being studied and that reforms are planned to revive these entities and resolve their management problems”.
