Towards more simplified controls on the train? While many travelers regret being fined for not showing their ID card in physical form, this problem may soon no longer occur. Since Monday, SNCF has been testing a new control system on board its TGVs, which could then be generalized to all of its customers.
This is a joint experiment between SNCF Voyageurs and France Identity. Concretely, it will no longer be necessary to present your train ticket and your identity card to prove that you have a transport ticket. Only the France Identity application will suffice, which “will allow both checks to be carried out in a single gesture”.
How does it work?
The experiment concerns beta users of France Identity. They have the possibility of integrating their identity document into the application. Once this is done, the application allows you to display a specific card with a QR code with a simple click. It is this digital identity card that you simply need to present instead of your train ticket when checked by a controller.
The QR Code is encrypted and contains the name, first name and date of birth. These data being communicated when purchasing a transport ticket, they will therefore allow the conductor, by scanning it, to find the corresponding train ticket.
What will be the conditions to benefit from it?
This functionality is currently only tested on TGV Inoui trains. Checking your tickets with France Idété can only be done if you have provided your first name, last name and date of birth when purchasing your ticket.
-You must also have a new national identity card, deployed since 2021. This is the card in bank card format. Only this identity card format can be dematerialized in the France Identity application.
How to activate this feature?
To activate this feature, you will need to scan your identity card on the application for the first time, then enter your personal code in the application. Your ID card will then appear in the app and simply click on it to reveal the digital ID card.
During the check, simply click on the identity card, then slide to reveal the QR Code.
