The Family Allowance Fund (Caf) will soon review its allowances in 2025. And yes, it could well shake up the daily lives of a lot of French households, whether in terms of the conditions for receiving this aid or the amounts themselves. With inflation continuing to impact our economy, these adjustments aim to better reflect the financial realities of beneficiaries.
What's new for services?
In 2025those who receive social assistance will notice a change in their payments from the February 5. Unlike other years, this time, we took the lead with a 2% revaluation based on January 1 to take inflation into account. This mainly affects resource ceilings. Result: an increase in 4,8 % was applied to the maximum income used to determine whether one is eligible or not.
But be careful, the usual annual increase in benefits from Caf will arrive on 1er avril instead of the start of the year as one might have expected. In short, you will have to wait a little before seeing any good news on your account.
Who can still claim aid?
The changes affect several allocations such as family allowancesl’Paje basic allowancethe family supplementl’allowance for disabled adultsand the free choice of childcare supplement. The new limits now take into account your income received in 2023which could create some differences between your current situation and your right to aid.
A concrete example: a couple with two children, one under three years old, earning together 55 000 € per year will now be able to claim the basic Paje allowance. The ceiling thus goes from 52 937 € in 2024 to 55 478 € in 2025, opening the door to a partial monthly allocation of 97 € for this home.
How will things change for family benefits?
For those who receive modulated family allowances because of high income, these new features could reduce or even eliminate certain modulations that they had until then. In some cases, this could result in a doubling of the amount received since January. But be careful! Only those whose income has not changed too much since 2022 are affected by this potential pleasant surprise.
Conversely, if your income has climbed beyond the expected threshold, expect to see your benefits reduced or eliminated. It is therefore important for each household concerned to examine their past financial situation in order to anticipate these adjustments.
-What to expect and what to do now?
The surprise payment of benefits for January will fall on February 5and it may well bring its share of surprises – good or bad – for your beneficiaries. The gap between your income taken into account (those of two years ago) and your current situation can sometimes cause a bit of chaos in the allocation of aid.
These changes remind us how crucial it is for each beneficiary family to be informed and ready for regulatory developments affecting their social rights. Vigilance is therefore recommended to avoid any unpleasant surprises during the next payment.
With all these new measures arriving slowly but surely, it may also be a good time to rethink your budgetary management and check that your tax declarations reflect your current economic situation.
