The fake police officer scam strikes again in the canton of Fribourg. A man took 5,000 francs in cash, jewelry and credit cards, which he used to withdraw another 6,000 francs. He would have acted in collaboration with accomplices based in France.
The cantonal police arrested the perpetrator in flagrante delicto in Marly at the beginning of January, after two reports of fraud in the region. He was placed in preventive detention after confessing to the facts, indicate the police.
In recent cases, the scammer calls pretending to be a police officer, cites an ongoing investigation and obtains financial information during a lengthy exchange. An accomplice then goes to the home, poses as a police officer and collects the victims’ valuable possessions.
