Guest of BFMTV-RMC, Friday January 17, Éric Lombard spoke at length about the government's tax strategy in the context of the 2025 Budget.
“The number of taxable French people will not change. We are not going to reach households“. Guest of the BFMTV-RMC morning show, Friday January 17, the Minister of the Economy and Finance, Éric Lombard, focused on the government's roadmap in terms of taxes, aimed at reducing the deficit audience. “Thanks to the decision of the Socialist Party not to censor us and if it goes through to the budget, which I believe, we will be able to re-index the scale. Otherwise 18 million people would see their tax increase because we could not change the scale in the special law“, underlined Éric Lombard.
“With the budget, taxes will take inflation into account and we will not increase taxes on most SMEs and craftsmen to whom we are very attached.“, he added. “We want to protect businesses, we want to protect development, we want to protect jobs.”insisted the Minister of the Economy. On large companies, on the other hand, Eric Lombard wishes to take up the idea of the temporary surcharge proposed by the previous government but to attenuate it. “There was a two-year surcharge on large businesses in Michel Barnier's Budget“, he recalls. “This surcharge which was voted on and which we are keeping, we will only apply it for one year“, specified the minister.
Exceptional participation of high incomes on assets rather than on income
Concerning the tax on high incomes, Éric Lombard wishes “put this up for debate” while this measure would bring two billion euros to the state coffers. But he specifies that it could focus on assets rather than income: “We are keeping it in the Budget for the moment but we think that it could be smarter and more equitable to reduce it to a contribution on high assets which would above all be an anti-optimization measure. We don't talk about the work tool that is very important to protect“. Before adding: “This is not a return of the ISF because the ISF touched wealth independently of other taxes.“Finally, Éric Lombard affirmed that giving up the 10% tax loophole for retirees”is not part of the solutions” in the eyes of the government to reduce the public debt.
