The unions are concerned about the transfer under lease management of 39 Carrefour stores, including that of the Toison d'Or shopping center in Dijon. The hypermarket will change operator in a few months. This system allows Carrefour to remain the owner of the premises and the business, but the employment contracts will be attached to the tenant-manager, who rents the business.

An announcement taken as a blow to the more than 300 employees. “We knew that there was going to be a wave of transition to rental management. We suspected that one day it might be us. But when the decision was announced, the news really hurt. Employees are angry, sad and very disappointed” comments Sarah Dupaty, elected CFDT.

The group's management defends its choice. She ensures that this strategy makes it possible to maintain the activity of the stores concerned. “Leasing has proven its effectiveness in improving the performance of stores that are making significant losses. Since 2018, no Carrefour hypermarket has closed in France“.

The distributor defends itself against any forceful entry. The decision would have been taken in consultation with the social partners. A version denied by the CFDT which is worried and evokes a disguised social plan. According to Hervé Kiening, general secretary CFDT Services 21, “for employees, there will be a big loss of remuneration. It is estimated at 2,540 euros for the year. This is something that has been evaluated, demonstrated since the start of rental management in 2018“.

Carrefour management promises that no employee will be harmed.”The Labor Code provides that all contracts of existing employees are taken over by the tenant-manager with the attached rights: seniority, salary and qualification..”

In a press release dated January 10, the CFDT recalls that 344 stores (95 hypermarkets and 249 superstores) have already been outsourced since 2018, removing more than 27,000 employees from the workforce. The Confederation intends to take the distributor to court in order to prevent any further transfer.
