Davos: Donald Trump will speak by videoconference

Donald Trump will participate by videoconference in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos next week, a few days after his return to the White House, organizers said on Tuesday.

During his first term, Donald Trump had already attended, in person, this conference which brings together political and economic elites each year in the Swiss ski resort. This year it will take place on the afternoon of Thursday January 23, said the head of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Borge Brende, during a presentation of the 2025 edition.

Until now, uncertainty hovered over the potential participation of the American billionaire in this forum, who has attended twice in the past, or that of billionaire Elon Musk.

Concerning the latter, “we don’t know” if he will come this year, said Borge Brende, but “he is of course welcome with Donald Trump when he comes, we hope, in person to our next annual meeting. »

Also expected at the forum which takes place from Monday January 20 to Friday January 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will make a speech on Tuesday. Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, the Iraqi President, the Syrian and Saudi Foreign Ministers, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will also be among the political leaders present.

Created in 1971, the WEF brings together hundreds of participants each year, including business owners and political leaders, in a ski resort transformed into an international conference center for a week.

The theme of the forum this year will be “collaboration in the intelligent era”, and will see the participation of more than 60 heads of state and government, according to the organizers.
