Skiing and snowboarding are expensive pleasures, even if only with equipment rental. The days of special offers for vacation rentals are long gone. But where to rent the cheapest for the day or week? This is a question that Christian Limburg and Simon Lehmann wanted to answer.

In fact, this winter they launched the online platform Snou.ch. A site that allows you to compare ski rental prices from around 400 sports shops and find their locations on a map. Let’s first see where the 750 sports stores with winter sports equipment rental deals are located:

As mentioned, 400 of these sports stores also publish rental prices directly on their website:

The question is where to find the cheapest rental skis. According to Snou.ch, the Karrer sports store in Laufen (Basel-Landschaft, is unbeatable). But it is not the only one to offer competitive prices. Valais, Friborg and Neuchâtel also offer attractive conditions.

To find out where to find the best deals, check out the table below:

Data and sources

The operators assume that Snou lists 90% of sports stores offering the possibility of renting skis. However, the data is only as good as stores capturing it and being found by Google.

The data was collected using Google Maps data mining, which identified approximately 2,500 sports stores. Around 750 of them offer ski rental, just over 400 also list prices. The price displayed is always the cheapest according to the website for rentals for the day or up to seven days. Rental prices for the season are not indicated at this time.

This list is not exhaustive. Finding all the stores would be a utopia. The aim of the platform is to reflect as comprehensive a collection of the current pricing landscape as possible.

In Neuchâtel, a socialist and POP motion aimed at regulating HES tax increases was deemed inadmissible by the Council of State.

The socialist group and POP deputies tabled a motion in Neuchâtel to propose modifying intercantonal law to prevent taxes from increasing in the HES without the Grand Council being able to validate this increase. The Council of State considers that the text is inadmissible, because it cannot propose to its parliament a law which modifies intercantonal law.
