good news, the bill for almost all French people will fall in 2025

The year 2025 is off to a good start for subscribers to EDF’s regulated tariff who will finally see their electricity bill reduce!

Good news! In February 2015, the price of electricity should fall. But be careful, this will not concern everyone…

Electricity finally cheaper in 2025?

It’s an essential thing, taking out an energy subscription is necessary for every household. Regardless of where you live, it is difficult to ignore access to electricity and/or town gas. Because these energies actually make it possible to run a home.

Like controlling your shopping budget, controlling your energy consumption is one of the keys to preserving your finances. Because this expense is one of the most significant for a monthly budget. Especially those hit hard by inflation and rising prices.

During the month of February 2024, the price of electricity increased on average by +8.6%. It thus went from €0.2276 per kWh to €0.2516. That is the equivalent of an average increase of +187 € on the bill per year for basic rates.

A hard blow therefore for households weakened by inflation. And among the home appliances that consume the most in terms of kWh, radiators are far ahead of all the others. Winter has just arrived, so the following good news should delight everyone…

Because things could significantly improve in 2025. Indeed, a drop in the price of kWh is announced for the beginning of next February.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) announced on January 7 a 14% reduction in the regulated sales tariff (TRV) for electricity. It will concern approximately 22.4 million homes and businesses, or 56% of subscribers.

This 14% reduction includes electricity transmission costs which will increase by 7.7% on February 1, 2025. As well as the domestic tax on final electricity consumption (TICFE). The latter will increase from 22 euros to 33.70 euros per megawatt hour in February.

Which households will be affected?

An unexpected boost in these times of high cost of living. But there is still a dark side to the picture. Because not everyone will be able to benefit from it. This reduction in the cost of electricity will concern households having subscribed to the regulated EDF tariff.

For others who have another energy supplier, things will be less simple. As our colleagues from Journal du Geek report, you will therefore have to look on a case-by-case basis if you are subscribed to an electricity supplier other than EDF.

Your offer must be indexed to the regulated rate. If you notice that no reduction is planned in your case, you can then terminate your contract to opt for the EDF rate.

Your contract does not include this price reduction and you do not wish to change it? So, you can implement simple actions to still save money this winter.

Like thinking about unplug certain electrical appliances which consume, even in off mode. Like the television, which is one of the devices that consumes the most electricity in standby mode. Or even your internet box. Although it uses 30% less power in standby mode, unplugging it every day can save you a few cents.

Finally, remember to insulate your rooms well to avoid overconsumption of your heating appliances. Especially if they run on electricity. Did you know? Also lowering your thermostat a small degree will save you a lot on your final bill. And your wallet will appreciate it!
