In December 2024, the consumer price index (CPI) decreased by 0.1% compared to the previous month, to stand at 106.9 points (December 2020 = 100). Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the increase was +0.6%. Average annual inflation reached +1.1% in 2024. These figures were established by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
The CPI decline of 0.1% from the previous month is explained by several factors, including lower prices for international package tours, medicines and various vegetables. On the other hand, the prices of parahotels and hotels have increased.
The average annual inflation for 2024 corresponds to the rate of variation between the annual average of the CPI for 2024 and that for 2023. The annual average is equivalent to the arithmetic average of the twelve monthly indices of the calendar year. In 2024, average annual inflation reached +1.1%. This increase is explained in particular by the increase in housing rents and electricity prices. On the other hand, the prices of medicines, gas and used cars have decreased. The prices of domestic products increased on an annual average by +1.9% and those of imported products fell by -1.5%. In 2023, the average annual inflation was +2.1%, in 2022 +2.8%.
