The year is off to a good start for French savers. Indeed, It is in January that they receive the interest that the investments they make bring them. The higher the interest rate, the more money they receive.
They can benefit from it, because the Banque de France is planning significant changes for the year 2025. Changes which should push savers to review their strategy. This year, you will have to think about maximizing your income.
Interest to start the year off right for savers
For savers who have tax-exempt savings accounts, the start of the year is synonymous with significant payments. If a person has reached the ceiling of their Livret A (22,950 euros), they receive 688 euros at the start of the year thanks to the rate of 3%.
The average outstanding amount, estimated at €7,077, generated around €212 in interest on average for savers. These yields, appreciated by manyhowever, are likely to decline this year due to the slowdown in inflation.

In fact, savings accounts such as the Livret A or the LDDS undergo a rate review twice a year. The latter takes place in February and August. These adjustments take into account changes in inflation and financial markets.
On January 15, François Villeroy de Galhau, governor of the Bank of France, will unveil its recommendations for the new rates applicable from February 1, 2025. These proposals, which are based on inflation data from July to December 2024, will then be validated (or adjusted) by the executive before their publication in the Official Journal.
A predictable drop for savers?
For Livret A, savers are not expecting a big surprise. Indeed, according to Éric Lombard, general manager of Caisse des Dépôts, the rate should fall to 2.5%, a decrease of 0.5 points. This decline is obviously the consequence of the slowdown in inflation, which remains the main criterion for calculating the remuneration of this investment.
-Similarly, the LDDS, aligned with the Livret A rate, will also suffer this drop. The trend is a little more vague for the Popular Savings Booklet. Today, the LEP pays its 12 million savers at 4%.
Its future level remains uncertain. According to the regulatory calculation formula, it should go down to 3%but a higher revaluation is possible. The government, remember, can intervene to limit a drop that is harmful to savers.

A question of organization
These adjustments will have a direct impact on savers’ returns. In fact, holders of a Livret A or an LDDS will have to adapt to lesser interests. For their part, LEP holders hope for a more competitive rate, although everything will depend on the government’s budgetary priorities.
The announcement by the governor of the Banque de France represents a major meeting for millions of French people. If the drop in rates seems inevitable for certain booklets, LEP holders could benefit from additional support.
In any case, savers will have to organize themselves. They will undoubtedly have to opt for diversification of their savings to maximize income. Now is the time to find out about other products. Certain attractive products may tempt them, although they do not necessarily have the same advantages as regulated booklets.
