If many electric models have been successes in 2024, for others, the results of the past year have been catastrophic. A quick overview of these failures.
Kia EV9: 350 sales
With its XXL size (more than 5 meters in length), the EV9 is clearly not cut out for France. And it shows in sales! Another problem with this vehicle: prices start at €73,000, an amount that the French will have difficulty paying to buy a Kia.
Opel Astra: 311 sales
Opel can now boast of having an electric version for all models in its range. But for some, this doesn't do much for sales. Example with the electric Astra and its 311 registrations in 2024. Its technical cousin Peugeot e-308 is doing much better with 2,080 sales.
Hyundai Ioniq 6: 286 sales
With its sedan silhouette and its original styling, the Ioniq 6 does not appeal to the French. It therefore sells less well than a very expensive Porsche Taycan! Not sure that the restyling planned for 2025 will save the furniture.
Tesla Model X: 244 sales
If the Model Y has retained the head of the electric car sales ranking, the large Model X no longer appeals at all to us. Only 244 sales, 100 times less than the Model Y! The Model S doesn't do much better with 270 registrations!
Lancia Ypsilon: 93 sales
Lancia made its return to France in 2024. But not many people expected it. Its new Ypsilon thus got off to a failed start, with 132 sales, including 93 electric. And a good part for the network or the brand.
Vinfast VF8 : 82 expected
We sometimes wonder why new Asian brands are so keen to launch here. Without having a proposition that attracts customers' attention, it's difficult to break through. Vinfast is thus failing with its electric SUVs: 82 registrations for the VF8.
Mazda MX-30: 76 sales
The years go by and success still does not come for the MX-30, which is nevertheless the only model produced in Japan which has managed to keep the bonus. And even with big promotions, sales collapsed by 85%. Too little autonomy is the big handicap of the model.
Subaru Solterra: 57 sales
If Subaru hoped to relaunch in France with a first electric model, it failed. Only 57 examples of the Solterra were registered. It must be said that it is an almost exact copy of the Toyota bZ4X, but more expensive! Moreover, by sharply lowering its prices, the Toyota has finally taken off, with 1,316 registrations.
Nissan Townstar: 18 sales
Already, the Townstar doesn't have much chance of breaking through here, because it's just a rebadged Kangoo and the French customer will prefer Renault. So in the electric version with a minimal range of 280 km, it's even worse. A recipe that produces sales close to nothing.
Lexus UX: 4 sales
We can say that it is catastrophic. Makes you wonder why the vehicle is still for sale because no one wants it! If Lexus has had success with the hybrid, the electric has not succeeded at all, because even the largest RZ was a big flop with only 52 registrations last year.
