Millionaire for Christmas: a couple finds a winning ticket a few hours before it expires

A couple from Indiana in the United States reportedly won US$1 million on Christmas Day, after finding their winning ticket fallen between two seats in the car, just 5 hours before it expired.

“It was an emotional day for both of us,” said the couple, who requested anonymity, the Hoosier Lottery, the official lottery of the state of Indiana, said in a statement last week.

For more than a month, the organization had launched an appeal to the population regarding a jackpot of 1 million US dollars in Powerball which had still not been claimed, and which was about to expire on the 26 December.

The couple who had the winning ticket in their possession then looked for the ticket in their belongings, without success, even to the point of coming to the conclusion that they simply must not have bought a ticket for this drawing, can we read.

Except that, a few days before Christmas, the story of the unclaimed jackpot would have fallen upon the ears of the uncertain couple, who would have ended up getting up, torn, at 4 a.m. on December 25 to search their home from top to bottom looking for the ticket.

It was then that one of them allegedly found him caught between two seats in his vehicle. The ticket was finally checked only 5 hours before its expiration.

“The Hoosier Lottery encourages ticket holders to ensure their ticket is in a secure location,” the release read.
