Work-study training has become a preferred route for young people who wish to enter the job market. Between 2012 and 2023, the number of apprenticeship contracts signed almost tripled, going from 308,288 to 850,000, according to the latest figures from the Directorate of Research Animation, Studies and Statistics (Dares). Accessible to young people aged 16 to 29, the work-study program is based on a mix of theoretical training in the classroom and practice of the profession with the employer. The training is paid in full by the latter, who also pays a salary to the student.
In 2025, two large companies will offer a significant number of work-study contracts. Each of them will recruit more than 2,000 work-study students. This strategy aims to “develop a talent pool for future recruitment needs”while reflecting their societal responsibility to contribute to the integration of young people into the world of work, specifies in Figaro Student one of the two companies, active in the banking sector. The profiles sought in these two companies are varied, ranging from CAP to bac+5. They come from technical and commercial as well as digital or managerial courses. Furthermore, both companies expect their candidates to have a strong capacity for adaptation, good team spirit and a certain motivation.
Another advantage of these recruitments: geographical coverage. “We are present throughout France, both in Île-de-France and in the region. Our work-study opportunities are found in cities such as Lille, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes and Mérignac”explains the banking sector company. The location of the positions varies depending on the professions offered.
The attractiveness of these companies is also based on the advantages granted. Work-study students recruited by the company specializing in large-scale distribution will benefit, according to the information sent to the Figaro Studentremuneration above legal minimums, generous employee savings (sharing and profit-sharing), extensive social security coverage (mutual health and welfare), as well as discounts on in-store purchases. Young people will also have assistance to finance a driving license, meal vouchers and two days of teleworking per week after six months in one of the company's headquarters.
For its part, the banking company offers supervised training, remuneration above legal minimums, dedicated tutors and access to various internal systems to retain young talents. As for prospects for development, the two companies indicate that they recruit fixed-term or permanent contracts each year based on identified recruitment needs.
These work-study offers, to which it will be possible to apply from March 2025, concern BNP Paribas and Carrefour. Around 2,200 work-study students will be recruited at BNP Paribas, while Carrefour will offer 5,000 positions. The missions offered by the retail giant concern various sectors: in stores, in logistics or at headquarters, in functions such as marketing and project management. As for BNP Paribas, a wide choice will be offered to students, ranging from business development, IT, finance, marketing and communication or human resources. In 2024, the banking company was awarded the HappyTrainees label for the tenth consecutive year. This label reflects the satisfaction rate of the company's students.
