The year 2024 has just ended and with it, no less than 10 models have also left the scene. These are mainly sports cars and chic automobiles.
Plane shots in the range of the brand with the rings
In the portfolio of the brand with the rings, the Audi A5 available as a sedan or station wagon (Audi A5 before) has just replaced the A4, pillar of the range whose first version – known internally under the code B5 – appeared in 1994, replacing the Audi 80. The new Audi A5 will cast a narrower net than in the past.
In fact, the coupe and convertible versions have been retired and will not be replaced. The Ingolstadt firm, which has already made good progress in duplicating its offering between thermal vehicles and electric models, is refocusing on the most popular body types (sedans, station wagons, SUVs and SUV coupes). So aesthetes will have to make up their minds or else, and it’s a shame for Audi, move on to the competition, at BMW and Mercedes who both retain this type of silhouette.
End clap for the Chiron
The most chic of French brands presented its latest creation last year which, as usual, did not fail to cause a sensation: the Bugatti Tourbillon. The latter inevitably pushing its predecessor the Bugatti Chiron towards the exit appeared in spring 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show and since then produced 500 personalized units each which has largely served its time. Its W16 gasoline engine powered by four turbos delivering, depending on the version, a comfortable power of between 1,500 and 1,600 hp. The torque value of 1,600 Nm is not to be outdone.
The last Bugatti Chiron has been produced, it’s the end of a generation!
I gave birth to him from Jaguar
Last December, to everyone’s surprise, the Jaguar brand lifted a corner of the veil on its electric future through the Type 00 concept car. A very offbeat aesthetic manifesto. The English firm also took the opportunity to renew its logo while making the daring bet of no longer marketing a vehicle while waiting for the 100% electric succession.
An assumed policy which de facto puts an end to the career of the Jaguar F-Type coupe and roadster. For the record, the one which from certain angles without falling into the neo-retro made a strong nod to the Type E, was launched in 2013, a first time restyled, quite soberly in 2017. Before moving on once again on the operating table, in 2020, receiving a whole new face for the occasion.
Heading towards electric for Maserati
Like many luxury brands, the Italian firm Maserati has chosen to focus on electric “wattures” who then took the surname Folgore. With this in mind, clear cuts have been made in the range. The Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans are no longer produced, although there are still some in stock available on the brand’s website. Ditto for the Maserati Levante SUV.
No more big block for the Miata
The fourth version of the Mazda MX-5, the ND type, was launched in 2015 and restyled twice in 2018 and then 2023. The engine range has just lost its largest unit, the two-liter unit with 184 hp, sacrificed on the altar of anti-pollution standards. Only the “small” 1.5 with 131 hp remains on the program.
Restyled Mazda MX-5 test: happiness is always in the roadster
Porsche 718 Cayman et Boxster
At Porsche, the “entry” range 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster are no longer relevant. For both models, the future will be written in 100% electric mode. However, in order not to completely abandon the niche, the sharpest thermal versions: 718 Cayman GT4 RS and 718 Spyder RS remain in place. Both contain the same flat 6-cylinder engine with a volume of 4 liters and distilling a power of 500 hp.
