A beautiful fireworks display lights up the sky over Sydney, Australia. With the time difference, Australians are among the first to celebrate the New Year in the world. When it was midnight in Sydney, it was only 2 p.m. in Belgium!

England
On the night of December 31 to January 1, the Tar Barrel Festival is celebrated in Allendale, in the north of England. This celebration dates back to 1858. Around forty men carry flaming barrels on their heads across the city. Shortly before midnight, they return to the village square to light a bonfire by throwing their barrels.
