Unveiled a few days ago during Nio Day, Firefly's first electric model left no one indifferent. William Li, the boss of the Chinese brand, confirmed that the city car would enter the European market during the first half of 2025 through a network of distributors.
Firefly wants to rely on a network of distributors
Already well established in the electric vehicle market, the Chinese Nio does not intend to stop there. The group now has three brands: Nio, Onvo and Firefly. The manufacturer recently lifted the veil on an electric city car with a rather cute look. Its new spearhead for a massive establishment in Europe. A car designed in Munich under the leadership of Kris Tomasson, a former BMW employee. If William Li did not give many details about this future electric city car, we now know when and how the brand intends to go about tackling the European market. The boss of the Chinese firm promises marketing “ during the first half of 2025 ”, thanks to the “ network of already established distributors ».
First China, and then Europe
Firefly has not announced the names of the dealers or the countries in which it will establish itself first. But William Li said his future partners “ must be ready “. It will be China first in April, then Europe in May or June. Next, the brand will tackle Latin America and Southeast Asia. With this new strategy, we understand that Nio is really looking to move up a gear.
The small electric will compete directly with the MG4, Volkswagen ID.3, Mini Cooper E, Smart #1 and Renault 5 E-Tech. Unlike the other models in the group, this one will not be able to use the battery exchange network. The pack the Firefly is equipped with is too small. Offered at a price of 148,800 yuan (19,500 euros) in the Middle Kingdom, the entry ticket will approach 30,000 euros here.
