Lidl continues to innovate in its stores. With the reopening of an establishment closed for months, the brand has launched a new concept.
Lidl is still very successful. According to a study by Bonial and Ipsos based on 2,952 French people who were interviewed in autumn 2024, to determine the attractiveness of French general food brands according to 11 criteria, Lidl wins over the criteria of price attractiveness, value for money and the generosity of promotions. If the German brand has decided to end its Lidl Voyage online service in 2025, it is focusing on its physical sales in stores.
This is further proven by the recent reopening of a store in France, with a new concept. Closed since June 2024 for work, it has just reopened in mid-December but has been completely renovated. First strong point of this redevelopment: the surface area, an aspect on which Lidl seems to be playing more and more. This store is 1140.60 square meters.
“In continuation of its move upmarket and its repositioning as a convenience brand initiated around ten years ago, Lidl France has rethought the model of its supermarkets”, communicated the group, as reported News Lyon. So in this new establishment, brightness is the key word with a “glass facade and noble materials to create a friendly and cozy atmosphere”, explained the brand. The objective is presented as being to “enhance the well-being of customers and employees”. With much larger aisles, they will also be able to move around more easily.
This new concept also has an ecological significance. Lidl wants to create establishments that are more environmentally friendly. In this store, 800 m² of photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof and two electric charging stations are available. The brand also opts for LED lighting or even more energy-efficient refrigeration systems.
If the concept is innovative in this establishment, Lidl maintains its low price policy, which will not be different from other supermarkets in the chain. If you want to try this supermarket, you have to go to Oullins-Pierre-Bénite, near Lyon. If the group has not yet communicated on other stores created or restored around this new concept – the brand has also announced the opening at the end of February 2025 of an XXL store in Rennes, with a surface area of 1950 m² -, it is not impossible that this will happen in the months to come if the latter meets with great success.
