Little Léon displays a laughing pout in front of the lens. In the arms of his parents, Cristelle and François Guillermou, the 7-month-old toddler opens questioning eyes on these evening visitors, in this place which is now part of his daily life. In fact, his parents took possession of number 3 on the church square, which then became the town's family grocery store. A first business in a food business for the couple who opened “Béganne Dépanne” on November 9, at the following times: Monday to Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (8 p.m. , Saturday); closed on Thursday.

It is in 51 m2 that local and organic food products (as much as possible), fruits and vegetables, household products and even dog and cat food come together. “You can really find almost everything there”asserts Bernard Ryo, this Friday, December 13, during the small inaugural ceremony organized by the two new grocers. At his side, Françoise Boussekey, mayor of Sainte-Marie (Ille-et-Vilaine) and vice-president of Redon Agglomération, delegate for business development. Both complement each other in their speeches to congratulate the Guillermou couple.

Like convenience stores in Quebec

“You were impatiently awaited by the population with your store which is located halfway between the supermarket and the grocery store”notes the mayor of Béganne. “We are delighted to see this in the heart of the town. It’s really suitable”then evoking his memories of a visit to Quebec. “It makes me think of convenience stores, as rural grocery stores are called there. » And finally recognizing in them a certain courage: “You never gave up. The town hall supported you throughout this journey. »

Same story for the elected representative of the Agglomeration who supports “a local activity, which allows you to avoid taking the car and encourages people to cook fresh products”while emphasizing that “taking over a business is already an adventure! A commitment as a couple, personal and professional, to offer this service to residents, while leading the life we want: you allow meetings between residents, an outing objective for some. Well done ! »

Obstacles overcome

Modestly, the parents of young Léon welcomed these congratulations, even though their project was far from being won. “Beganne has been missing a food business since the departure of Sylvie Duranty (who ran a grocery bar until February). We launched a questionnaire in August 2023, distributed by us in 900 copies. With a return rate of 28%, good comments and contacts. However, we had big financial obstacles. The banks did not want to follow us. Not believing in our project. » Adventures which, however, made Cristelle and François want to fight. “And humanly, we were supported. »

Having just arrived from Brière, their suitcases placed above the business, the two traders no longer count their hours. “Busy days, but chosen”confides the young mother, still a part-time employee at a hairdresser. “This is our life project: to raise Léon in peace. My goal is to be able to quit my job at the salon and work full time at the store. And we have lots of ideas to develop it, listening to customers. » Like this animation with Santa Claus who will be present all morning of Sunday December 22. “Don’t forget to bring your letter”smile the two traders, delighted with the welcome from the Bégannais.
