Friday evening. A colorful caravan has just set up in the small parking lot between the town hall and the party hall in Marpiré (Ille-et-Vilaine). The shutter opens, the light comes on: let's go for a taco and burger evening.

Street food & street art

Five days a week, from Wednesday to Sunday, the spouses Sylvain and Éloïse Cart-Grandjean crisscross the Vitré region – and beyond – with their food trucks Sylvain Tacos & Burgers.

Very colorful and therefore very recognizable, the truck and the caravan are richly graffitied. “Since we sell street food, we wanted a street art decoration,” shows Éloïse.

“We had our food trucks decorated by David, a graffiti artist from Nouvoitouhis artist name Tonton Graffiti. »

Initially, Éloïse and Sylvain worked as fishmongers in the region, a profession which they continued when they settled in . Then, during the pandemic, it clicked.

“Sylvain launched the idea of the food truck and tacos. Since then, we have lived this new adventure to the fullest, close to customers, in the towns and at festivals,” says Éloïse with a big smile.

From Wednesday to Sunday, she teams up with her son Léo.

Two new places

Two new municipalities were added to their range at the end of the year, Marpiré and La Chapelle-Erbrée. “It’s good for small towns, which we don’t want to forget,” comments Éloïse.

Without a supermarket since this summer, the Marpiré town hall enthusiastically welcomed the proposal from itinerant restaurateurs to set up their food trucks there one evening a week.

“Madam Mayor was very responsive after our request. Validation and organization hardly took more than a week. »

Small towns

Éloïse has a preference for small towns. “The customers are often more welcoming, the atmosphere more family-friendly. »

In addition, she really appreciated the help from the Marpiré town hall for communication.

“From our first evening here, Friday November 29, the customers were there. We have seen the same enthusiasm at La Chapelle-Erbrée, where we have been setting up every Thursday evening since November 28. »

On the menu, a wide range of choices between tacos, burgers, hot dogs, panini and other croque-monsieur, all well garnished. To keep track and not disrupt the preparation work, orders are preferably made by SMS.

Practical: from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday in La Chapelle-Erbrée and Friday in Marpiré. Orders by SMS to 06 26 13 88 24. News and information on Facebook: @sylvain.tacosburgers.
