Honda and Nissan plan to pool part of their production as part of their merger project, the Kyodo news agency reported on Saturday, without citing its sources.
The report specifies that Honda also plans to supply hybrid vehicles to Nissan as part of this project which could lead to a merger.
“As announced in March and August, our company, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors are joining forces and exploring potential forms of cooperation, but nothing has been decided yet,” a spokesperson commented on Saturday. word from Honda to Reuters.
Nissan did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Japanese automaker is exploring the possibility of a merger with compatriot Honda, including a possible merger, as both manufacturers face increased competition globally from electric vehicle makers.
The Renault group, Nissan's main shareholder, has said it is open in principle to a merger and will examine all the consequences of such an operation.
