(Updated 11:06 a.m.) The future of the Train is currently being decided

The meeting on the future of the Charlevoix Train has just begun. Réseau Charlevoix would not have said that Train operations were ceasing, but has not yet commented on this morning’s meeting.

This is a file of great importance considering the number of stakeholders participating in it and the functions they occupy.

At the end of the meeting, the mayors, prefects and the general director of Tourisme Charlevoix reiterated that their position had not changed. “The requested amount has not been paid,” said La Malbaie Mayor Michel Couturier, who believes the discussions will be useful.

“Baie-Saint-Paul will not add any,” continued the mayor of Baie-Saint-Paul, Michael Pilote.

We also learned that the requested recovery plan, as announced by Belley, was not produced.

“We obtained a lot of information,” said Mitchell Dion of Tourisme Charlevoix. “We were not told we would set such a date,” he continues,

The prefect of the MRC of Charlevoix, Patrick Lavoie, also reiterated that the position of his organization remained the same. “The climate was good with relevant discussions,” he says.

The prefect of the MRC of Charlevoix-Est, Odile Comeau, had nothing more to add than what she had already expressed

The ball is now in the court of Réseau Charlevoix which would have agreed to take the discussions under advisement before ruling on the Charlevoix Train.

The president of Chemin de fer Charlevoix, David Blair, (photo) and the general director of Groupe Le Massif Charles-Antoine Choquette are present as is Bruno Labbé, president of Réseau Charlevoix.

The elected officials and general directors of the MRCs arrived together with the exception of Jean-Guy Bouchard. The latter had no idea about the outcome of the meeting, but “wanted it to work”.

The president of Tourisme Charlevoix Martin Dufour is also present.

The media wanted to take images in the room before the start of the meeting. The request did not have a positive response.
