Start of my series “The BEST RETAIL 2024”, a series of reviews of the year which will punctuate my posts until New Year’s Eve (the second New Year’s Eve, eh, because I don’t lack the resources or the desire to serve you as the new until the last second!). Today, the commercial report with the cumulative market shares over the first 12 periods of the year. 12 out of 13, which means that the final results will be close to this table to date, obviously…
Big winners of the year: Les Mousquetaires, with almost an additional point of market share. The park effect (the transformations of Casino, which started in Q4 2023) explains this naturally but… partially. According to my calculations, it is “half and half” between Casino and internal dynamics. A point on which the three independents find themselves. Leclerc and U are also making clear progress without having invited themselves to the Casino feast ????. A dynamic so structural that it is difficult to imagine another assessment next year!
Beyond that, what is striking this year is the overall results: almost all winners. Including Carrefour and Auchan. It’s a bit… the school of fans! The exit of the Casino and Cora hypermarkets and the Casino superstores mechanically boosts the market share of the buyers. And highlights even more the poor performance of the “new Casino” and Aldi.
