Two subcontractors at the Olymel factory in Saint-Esprit were injured at their workplace on Wednesday morning.
According to information obtained by TVA Newsthey were cleaning a machine that was not secure, around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
“This morning, they started the machine, they tried to stop it with the emergency button then the machine continued anyway,” explained an employee interviewed by TVA News. Clearly there is a security problem at this level.”
The arm of one of the workers apparently got stuck in a machine, while his colleague lost two fingers while trying to help him.
The company confirmed that two subcontractors were injured at their workplace on Wednesday.
The two workers are in stable condition at the hospital.
An investigation is underway by the CNESST.
Increase in accidents
First reported by The Pressdata provided by the CNESST shows an increase in accidents in Olymel factories.
In terms of CNESST findings reported to Olymel in the occupational health and safety sector, 13 accidents were reported in 2021, ten in 2022 and 2023 and three in 2024 (as of October 15).

According to the data, the Olymel factories where there are the most injury and illness files accepted by the CNESST between 2019 and 2024 are in Yamachiche (2146), Saint-Esprit (979) and Ange-Gardien (979).
