No less than 1.3 million active economic establishments were identified during the RGPH 2024. 86.6% of them are for-profit and 11.3% represent public services. The Casablanca-Settat region accounts for nearly 21% of these establishments, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra with 12.8% and Fès-Meknes with 12%.
Excluding agriculture, the number of establishments stands at 1.13 million with a predominance of small structures with fewer than 10 employees, at 97.3%. The rest is distributed among those of medium size employing 10 to 49 people with a weight of 2.2%. On the other hand, only 0.5% are represented by establishments with 50 or more employees.
By sector of activity, commerce is in the lead with a share of 52% of establishments and 29.6% of jobs. It is followed by the services sector whose proportion amounts to 30.8% and 36% of jobs. Then, the industrial sector which comes in third position, capturing a share of 13.7% of the number of establishments and 29.8% of jobs. Construction only attracts a small share, standing at 3.5% in number and 4.6% in jobs.
Thus, the proportion of establishments run by women stands at 10.1% at the national level with 14.6% in services, 13.5% in industry and 7.2% in commerce. It is the Rabat region where women run the most businesses with a weight of 13.2%. The southern areas stand out with a proportion of 12.6% in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab and 12.5% in Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra. The region of Casablanca and Tangier are tied with 10.9%.
Besides, 147,062 public establishments are georeferenced, 74.2% of which are located in rural areas. 39% of them concern the socio-cultural field, 24% service activities, 23.6% education and training and 8.4% administrations.
In addition, 1073 weekly souks identified and georeferenced, of which 51 are inactive. The Marrakech-Safi region has the highest number of weekly souks at 169.
