After concluding the sale of its subsidiary Sound Energy Morocco East to the Managem group, the British hydrocarbon exploration company, Sound Energy, is redirecting its priorities towards its concessions located in Sidi Mokhtar, in the province of Chichaoua.
The transaction, initiated in June 2024 and finalized on December 11, required international coordination involving five countries to meet the imposed banking deadlines. The total amount of this operation could reach $45.2 million, with a first tranche of $13.02 million already paid, according to information reported by Medias24. This sale allows Sound Energy to consolidate its financial situation and close its initial investments.
For Managem, this acquisition represents a major step in the development of Moroccan gas resources. The Tendrara project, the pillar of this expansion, plans to start production from June 2025, with a capacity estimated at 100 million m³ per year, subject to the finalization of the liquefaction unit. To ensure the continuity of the project, cost studies and additional drilling campaigns are also scheduled for 2026.

For its part, Sound Energy now intends to concentrate its resources on the Sidi Mokhtar concession, an area of 4,711 km² located near the Meskala gas field, operated by ONHYM since 1987. This region currently produces around 30 million m³ per year. year, transported via pipelines to the OCP facilities in Youssoufia. With this potential, the area opens up promising prospects for new explorations.
At the same time, Sound Energy diversified its ambitions by signing, in October 2024, a strategic partnership with Getech to explore opportunities linked to natural hydrogen and helium in Morocco. According to Medias24helium indices have already been detected during previous drilling operations at Sidi Mokhtar, making it a priority site for future investigations.
With this new orientation, Sound Energy is positioning itself in sectors of the future, combining traditional exploration and diversification towards high value-added resources, such as hydrogen and helium. This ambitious strategy aims to strengthen its presence in emerging energy segments while capitalizing on Morocco’s natural potential.
