A terrible incident occurred on Friday at a playground in San Diego (California). Around noon, police received several calls reporting a dog attack. Arriving on site, the police found themselves faced with three canines in the process of massacring their owner. The animals were American Bully XL, a breed resulting from the cross between the American Staffordshire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier, or even other mastiffs.
Witnesses tried as hard as they could, hitting the animals with shovels and a golf club, to no avail. The police had no choice but to neutralize the dogs with electric shock guns. The scene was so violent and chaotic that a local resident thought he was witnessing the arrest of a dangerous criminal: “I saw that they were holding something in the grass. I thought it was a person, because they were talking about cordoning off the perimeter,” Steve Marto told KTLA.
Two dogs were able to be captured, but the third escaped into the neighborhood, prompting the quarantine of an elementary school. The animal was finally found at its owner’s home. The man died of his injuries in hospital. A child was with him during the attack, but was not physically injured. It is currently unknown what fate will be reserved for the three animals. “I don’t understand how anyone could want to have three dogs that size. “It’s asking for trouble, in my opinion,” comments Steve Marto.
