Little by little, Baud-Chardonnet comes to life. After the installation of small businesses and the opening of the Miriam-Makeba school group at the start of the 2024 school year, this district to the east of downtown Rennes will soon welcome a large store. The discount specialist Lidl has in fact chosen to set up in the heart of the area, on Assia-Djebar square, at the foot of a residence built by Bati-Amor. The opening is scheduled for next Wednesday, February 26, the brand indicates to Télégramme, following an announcement published on the social networks of the neighborhood’s commercial operator, Le Petit Baud (Chesse group).
The German giant is not doing things by halves since it will settle on 1,950 m². “This will be our largest commercial space in Brittany,” says Étienne Courseau, regional real estate manager at Lidl. The typical surface area is more like 1,400-1,700 m², but we have adapted to the building. » It must be said that the location is attractive: the district does not have a large surface area so far, although ultimately it should accommodate 5,400 residents.
Bread and pastries
Very present in Brittany, Lidl today has four stores in Rennes, the last of which, opened in September 2023, in the Visitation shopping center, a few steps from Place Sainte-Anne. Still under construction, the future Baud-Chardonnet supermarket will be open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will begin its activity with a team of around thirty employees. “There will be a 120-space car park above the store. The parking will be shared with other surrounding businesses,” explains Étienne Courseau.
Lidl will offer its customers its entire range, i.e. 2,700 references. It will notably sell bread and pastries. Products eagerly awaited by residents of a neighborhood that still lacks a bakery.
