Some hospitals in Switzerland have collected large sums of money on the purchase of common medical devices, an investigation by the Daily Gazette, published in French in the Tamedia French-speaking newspapers. The German-speaking daily cites the example of a hospital having billed 17,000 francs to health insurance for stents and balloons – instruments used to keep blocked arteries open – for which it had paid 1,462 francs. How is this practice of overcharging possible?
