Every week, Paris town hall publishes a bulletin on the changes observed on the ring road since the speed reduction to 50 km/h. The latter will not have, to say the least, been unanimous among users, as evidenced by the speed radars vandalized on the route in recent weeks. Data recorded by Airparif, Bruitparif and the Parisian Mobility Observatory of the City of Paris
No positive impact on air quality
The latest report on the subject, which concerns the period from December 2 to 6, shows that the lowering of the speed to 50 km/h which took place last October, would have had a positive impact on the vast majority of indicators measured, five in total, particularly in terms of noise pollution at night. On the other hand, compared to a comparable period a year earlier, the air quality did not change favorably according to the figures recorded and communicated during this last assessment, here are:
Ring road bulletin from December 2 to 6, 2024 (comparable period in 2023)
1. Noise
-2.7 dB(A) at night (and day?): 77.4 dB(A) in 2024, 80.1 dB(A) in 2023
2. Air pollution
(difficult to precisely analyze the data communicated by the Paris town hall, which simply classifies this indicator as “stable”)
- 32.4 µg/m3 – nitrogen dioxide concentration
- 19.2 µg/m3 – concentration of fine particles (PM10)
- Nitrogen dioxide (standard range observed in 2023): 27 – 64 µg/m3
- Fine particles (standard range observed in 2023): 15 – 39 µg/m3
3. Traffic speed
- -17% at night
- New: 49 km/h in 2024, 60 km/h in 2023
- Day: 31 km/h in 2024, 34 km/h in 2023
4. Traffic jams
- -4%
- Difference in the sum of congestion hours observed for all sites
5. Accidents
- -51%
- 18 accidents in 2024, 37 in 2023
