How we did it
What can you expect in terms of electric charging once you arrive at your mountain resort? Here are some answers established from cross-referenced data from Chargemap, an application which allows, among other things, to locate charging stations in a few clicks, and Skidata.io, an observatory of French ski resorts.
We put ourselves in the shoes of motorists heading to the mountains and winter sports in electric cars. More precisely, we wanted to know what availability of charging at public terminals awaits us once we arrive at the foot of the slopes, depending on the mountain range and the ski resorts.
The panorama we built is based on data collected on both Skidata.io and Chargemap. We first listed the most popular resorts in each mountain range based on a multi-criteria ranking carried out in 2024 by the Skidata.io platform.
How many terminals “up there”? Once these destinations were listed, we retained the terminals installed sometimes (and more or less densely) within dedicated charging stations, sometimes installed in small units in primarily busy and strategic locations (in front of a town hall or an office). tourism for example). At the same time, we took into account the number of terminals that certain private establishments, such as hotel-restaurants, sometimes make available to all users of electric vehicles, beyond their simple clientele.
Disparity of mesh size and kW. Most of these terminals include between one and several charging points. Typically, each is equipped with multiple ports and configured to distill different power levels. In practice, this ranges from 3 to 22 kW on average, but sometimes also up to 50, 100 or even 200 kW depending on the terminal and the equipment of the station.
This survey, beyond providing you with concrete information on charging possibilities as an EV driver, highlights real disparities in terms of equipment, depending on the mountains and ski resorts concerned.

Northern Alps
THE Northern Alps were by far the best-off in terms of charging infrastructure last year, and they confirm their advantage this year. The 15 stations in our panorama total some 442 charging points, more than enough to reassure electromobilists passing through the region. Chamonix and Bourg Saint Maurice (Les Arcs) take the top prize with 60 catches available, narrowly ahead of Tignes and Val d’Isère. At the bottom of the ranking, we find Avoriaz, Meribel and Courchevel but remember that we only take into account charging points accessible to all and not those reserved for the customers of this or that establishment.

Southern Alps
The situation is slowly improving in Southern Alpswith some stations being particularly welcoming to electric vehicles. We can cite Serre-Chevalier, Auron, Les Orres and Isola 2000. However, many resorts – even well-known ones – are still reluctant to invest in terminals: this is the case of Risoul, Vars and even Superdevoluy. A little more effort please! In any case, savvy electric motorists will have every interest in recharging before getting in so as to have a reserve of electrons for the week.

The stations of Massif Central are located 5 hours drive from Paris or 2.5 hours from Lyon, which allows you to consider short-term getaways. There are 227 km of slopes, supplied by 135 ski lifts, and sometimes covered with artificial snow, for example at Super-Besse, located around sixty kilometers from Clermont-Ferrand. It’s not worth real powder, but at least it gives you the confidence to glide. Mont-Dore is the best equipped station in terms of charging, with 14 sockets accessible to the public, double what Super Besse offers, on the southern slope of Sancy. The three other stations studied do not have any charging points, so we will invite you to collect electrons in the surrounding towns and villages, for example during a good meal.
Vosges and Jura
VOSGES | Number of charging points | Powers delivered |

HOTONNES PLANS STATION | 0 | – |
We are not particularly thinking of Vosges when we plan a ski vacation, and we may be wrong if we think of their 14 peaks over 1,000 meters, and 27 alpine resorts with more than 150 alpine ski slopes, 500 km of ski slopes Nordic and 300 km of snowshoe routes. However, it will be better to get there by thermal car because with the exception of Gerardmer and La Bresse (34 charging points each) the offer is quite poor in terms of terminals.
Side Jurathe Rousses and Monts Jura stations do offer a few charging points open to the public, but it is very short. A known refrain, we will benefit from recharging “before going up” or in a large, better-equipped city nearby.
Pyrenees
PYRENEES | Number of charging points | Powers delivered |
FONT-ROMEU-BOLQUERE-PYRENEES 2000 | 14 | 3,7 kW / 22 kW / 30 kW |
SAINT-LARY SOULAN | 11 | 3,7 kW / 18 kW / 22 kW |
BAREGES | 6 | 3.7 kW / 18 kW |
GAVARNIE-GÈDRE | 6 | 7,4 kW / 18 kW |
THE CORNERS | 5 | 3 kW / 22 kW |
AX 3 DOMAINES (Ax-les-Thermes) | 5 | 3.7 kW / 22 kW |
THE ACUTE | 4 | 3 kW / 22 kW |
PIAU-ENGALY | 4 | 3.7 kW / 22 kW |
PEYRESOURDE | 3 | 3.7 kW / 18 kW |
THE MONGIE | 2 | 18 kW |
The 10 stations of Pyrenees taken into account in this study total 60 charging points open to the public, which is very few (even if all of them are actually equipped with at least one terminal). Font-Romeu is making a small effort with 14 holds available, three more than Saint-Lary. But here again, even if we note the presence of terminals of varying power (up to 22 kW), efforts still need to be made to attract electric motorists who love skiing. Prudence will therefore dictate that you recharge as much as possible before tackling the ascent, so as to have a good reserve for the week. Also keep in mind that many surrounding villages have at least one terminal, which can also help in the event of an emergency. With 150,000 charging points open to the general public across the country, you can now travel by electric car without anxiety, even to the highest peaks. Sometimes you just have to organize yourself a little.
