A teacher was fired from a Texas elementary school after she barred her young students from using the bathroom, leaving at least two of them to urinate on themselves.
The one who taught at Bartlett School explained that her students “lost the privilege of going to the bathroom during school hours because they lost their access badge in a hallway,” according to a publication on Facebook by a mother.
The students are around six or seven years old.
“Unfortunately, we have friends who really needed to go to the bathroom and ended up peeing on themselves,” the teacher added.
She apologized for this “accident” and affirmed that she broached the subject with her students. She nevertheless asks parents to have the same conversation to ensure that their children “understand the rules better”, reported The Guardian.
The mother who posted this message on Meta’s social network, Amber Johnson, however, does not agree with this way of teaching.
“These children were traumatized and humiliated,” she told the channel ABC News.
“It’s inappropriate and unhealthy,” added Joseph McCauley, the father of one of the students.
The publication contains around a hundred comments denouncing the situation.
The teacher had indicated that the children would have “new badges tomorrow [vendredi dernier]”, but the damage was done: she was fired by management.
“A current staff member will serve as a substitute teacher… while we complete our investigation into this matter,” principal Charita Smith said in an email sent to parents and obtained by the Houston Chronicle.
The latter confirmed that two students suffered such an accident, but according to an American media source, five children urinated on themselves.
Amber Johnson says she is pleased by the professor’s dismissal, but wishes she would no longer teach in any classes in the United States. “I want to make sure she doesn’t teach any of our children,” she told the Houston Chronicle.
