The new generation of Nissan Leaf swaps its compact sedan guise for that of a coupe SUV. The Japanese manufacturer hopes to attract a larger number of customers for its electric model which will progress well by changing its bodywork. After discovering prototypes of this new car in Europe, it is now in the United States that Nissan’s electric vehicle is continuing its tests.
Displaying a variegated camouflage, the prototype of the Nissan Leaf coupe SUV reveals certain details of its new style. We immediately see in the profile photos that this car is close to the design of the 2021 Chill Out concept car, even if the glass surface is larger than that which was on the concept. We also see that this model has flush handles on the front.
Similar Nissan Leafs on both sides of the Atlantic
These photos show, because the headlights are not very camouflaged, that the light signature at the front will be close to that of the Nissan Kicks sold in North Americathe new Nissan Leaf SUV will have the same light signature in Europe, the two models sold on each side of the Atlantic will differ only very little. We also notice the design of the low air intakes which are housed in the shield.
Close to the design of Chill Out
As for the stern, it is truncated like on the Chill Out concept car and displays a specific light signature. Equipped with a tailgate, this model has a high threshold height which will not make loading the trunk easier. The license plate is positioned on the shield and we see that the ground clearance of the model is quite high.
New platform and gain in autonomy
Regarding the technical aspect of this new Nissan Leaf SUV, we know that the Japanese brand will use the CMF/EV platform used by the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric but also the Nissan Ariya SUV. For the engines, Nissan should use those of the Renault Mégane and compared to the current generation of the Nissan Leaf we should see a gain in autonomy, the Leaf SUV could thus see its autonomy (mixed cycle) exceed 450 km.
