France 5 is reviewing its schedule. The public channel announced this Tuesday, December 10, that in “reason for international news” – and “the historical event” what constitutes the fall of the Bashar El Assad regime on December 8, 2024 – it would modify its programming this Sunday, December 15. In its Sunday slot “Le monde en face”, presented by Mélanie Taravant, France 5 will indeed offer “an updated version” from Antoine Vitkine's documentary, “Bachar, the master of chaos”. Originally programmed, “Hitler-Stalin, the clash of tyrants”, documentary directed by Michaël Prazan and narrated by Philippe Torreton, will be offered later.
“How did Bashar save his throne for so long?”
In its original version, this 70-minute documentary looks back on “ten years of conflict mixing civil war, jihadism, regional and international war“. “Who would have thought that 10 years after the start of a revolt born from the “Arab Spring”, the former medical student who did not want power, would still reign over his country?“, Antoine Vitkine asked.
The author and directortraces the journey of the Syrian dictator, the thirteen years of civil war and the relations with France of a country which finds itself, today, in ruins and on the brink of the abyss“. “How did the dictator remain at the head of his country for thirteen years, following the revolt born of the 'Arab Spring', a former medical student who did not want power? “Bachar, the master of chaos” was broadcast in its first version in 2016 on France 3. Then offered – in an updated version – on Tuesday June 1, 2021, the documentary, filmed in Syria, the United States, Russia, in the Emirates and France, informed 593,000 viewers on France 5 according to Médiamétrie, or 2.6% of the public aged four and over.
