Lidl is offering low-priced champagnes validated by an expert for its Christmas wine fair. Enough to find happiness for less than 20 euros.
Lidl launched its Christmas wine fair this Wednesday, December 4, while stocks last. This event always enjoys a certain success with the low-cost brand. For the holidays, red, rosé and white wine are offered, most of them for less than 10 euros. Certain champagnes are also on sale to blow the bubbles with the family, for less than 20 euros. It is a must-have for the end-of-year celebrations, although it should be consumed in moderation.
Certain bottles of champagne would be particularly remarkable according to Adam Lapierre, holder of the Master of Wine diploma, who participated in their blind tasting. According to the Lidl catalog for the Christmas wine fair, he had several favorite champagnes, which he classified in one of these two categories: from 86 to 89/100 for wines with qualities and with remarkable intensity and above 90, for exceptional beverages of character and complexity.
He particularly liked the “Champagne 1er cru brut, Nicolas Guesquin”, which obtained a score of 88/100. This is a wine made from several grape varieties: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. And that's good, he takes advantage of the buy two bottles, get one free offer, for a total of 53.66 euros for three bottles. Adam Lapierre also recommends the rosé champagne version which even has one more point on its score and is priced at 18.99 euros. The expert awarded an additional point to the “Champagne brut Philippe Lamarlière” available at the price of 17.89 euros per bottle. This sparkling wine is ideal to accompany an aperitif and dessert.
If these bottles were noted for their quality, two others located in the same price ranges stand out more by obtaining a score of 90/100. These are two brut champagnes. The first is the “Blanc de Noirs, Veuve Delattre” at 18.99 euros, made from a Pinot Noir grape variety. It is on par with the “Champagne brut Dutriaux” at 18.99 euros also, which was also valued by the Hachette wine guide 2023. It contains, for its part, pinot and chardonnay and table at 13%.
If you are not a champagne lover or have a smaller budget, Lidl offers as an alternative the sparkling wine “Clairette de Die, Cuvée César tradition” at only 4.95 euros per bottle. This “sweet and fruity” sparkling wine received a score of 88/100 from Adam Lapierre.
