Things are happening at the Hôtel Gouverneur in Rimouski

Things are happening at the Hôtel Gouverneur in Rimouski where charging stations for electric vehicles have been installed, so employees were carrying out other work on Tuesday inside of the hotel establishment closed in 2020.

Le Soir.ca contacted the Hôtels Gouverneur chain, formerly known as “Hôtel des Gouverneurs”, to find out what was happening and if there was anything new, especially with the presence of several unidentified vehicles at the front of the building.

The reservations department responded via email that there was nothing to announce…yet.

The installation of charging stations and this new work comes at the time of confirmations of the opening of a Loto-Québec gaming lounge and the expansion of the Hôtel Rimouski convention center, neighboring the Hotel Governor.

The little talkative channel

Since the closure, it has been difficult to get answers from the chain about its plans. The only ones obtained by Le Soir.ca are to the effect that there is nothing new and that we will be notified when the situation changes.

In March 2024, Sylvie Frenette, an administrative assistant, responded that “when we have information to communicate, we will do so”.

She has not yet responded to the email sent by Le Soir.ca late Tuesday.

Reopening planned?

In the fall of 2023, sources familiar with the matter indicated that the managers of the Hôtels Gouverneur were seriously considering reopening the Rimouski facilities.

Work on the roof had been carried out by Ferblanterie de Matane.

In Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke, Saguenay and Montreal, hotels in the chain were also closed before their confirmed reopenings in the following years. Will this be the case in Rimouski?

In the meantime, the site is subject to the City of Rimouski’s tax on unoccupied buildings in the city center.
