In Florida, a man posed as billionaire Elon Musk for almost a year.

In Florida, an American in his fifties was arrested, suspected of having defrauded at least $250,000 from a 74-year-old Texan woman on the internet. The man pretended to be Elon Musk on Facebook.

The scammer’s name is Jeffrey Moynihan, Bradenton police report. If the police estimate the damage at $250,000, the victim’s husband assures that she would have instead sent $600,000 to the man. The latter linked a relationship with his victim on Facebook in 2023.

He allegedly asked her to send him money to invest in his businesses, promising a return on investment of $55 million. The money was actually sent to one of the man’s bank accounts, Jeff’s Painting and Pressure Washing, LLC.
