The “Christmas bonus” will be paid a (very little) later than expected

BONUS – A delay of a few days. Although it had been announced for December 13, the “Christmas bonus” will be paid to beneficiaries of minimum social benefits on December 17, the government announced this Tuesday, November 27. This exceptional end-of-year bonus saw its minimum amount set in 2024 at 152.45 euros.

“All beneficiaries of the active solidarity income (RSA), the specific solidarity allowance (ASS), the flat-rate bonus for resumption of activity and the retirement equivalent allowance (AER) will benefit. It will be paid automatically on December 17, 2024, the week before the Christmas holidays”detailed the Ministries of Solidarity, Autonomy and Equality between Women and Men, that of Labor and Employment and their counterpart responsible for the Budget and Public Accounts, in a press release.

The households concerned are those which already benefit from social minimums such as the active solidarity income (RSA), the specific solidarity allowance (ASS) or the retirement equivalent allowance (AER).

A bonus not “ indexed to inflation »

No action is necessary to receive this bonus: it is paid by a transfer from the Family Allowance Fund (CAF), the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) or Pôle emploi. Furthermore, this amount is not taxable.

Beneficiaries of the Disabled Adult Allowance (AAH), however, are excluded, because the amount of this assistance exceeds the income thresholds set for the allocation of the bonus. The same goes for retirees.

Despite inflation, the amount of the 2024 Christmas bonus will remain equivalent to that of previous years. This bonus “ has never been indexed to inflation”, said the Minister of Solidarity, Autonomy and Equality between Women and Men, Paul Christophe, in an interview published on November 18 by West .

The amount of the Christmas bonus, depending on your situation

For RSA beneficiaries, the amount received varies from €152 to €535 depending on family situation and the number of dependent children. Single people can therefore expect a transfer of 152.45 euros. Then you have to add “plus 50% (of this amount, editor’s note.) when the household is made up of two people, whether a spouse or a child, and another 30% for each additional child.”

Concretely, a single person with a child will receive €228.67, just like a couple without children. The amount will be €274.41 for a single person with two children, or a couple with one child. A couple with two children will receive a bonus of €320.14, with three children it will be €381.12. Beyond two children, count €60.98 per additional child.

For beneficiaries of ASS or AER, paid by France Travail, the amount of the Christmas Bonus is, however, fixed and amounts to 152.45 euros regardless of family situation. However, one exception should be noted: single people with one or more children can benefit from a 35% increase in their premium. Please note, however, that obtaining this increased bonus is not paid automatically. The request must be made to France Travail.
