New cars: the market timidly maintains its course at the end of June

Sales of new cars in Morocco stood at 82,286 units at the end of June 2024, up 1.06% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM).

In detail and for this month of June alone, the passenger vehicle segment recorded a tiny decrease of -0.04% with 15,855 units sold compared to June 2023, a month during which 15,862 units were sold. As for the light commercial vehicle segment, it recorded a decrease of -1.25% with 1,513 units sold in June 2024 compared to 1,532 units sold in June 2023. Overall, the cumulative automobile market at the end of June 2024 totals 82,286 units, up +1.06% compared to the end of June 2023 when 81,419 units were sold. We have the great start of the Chinese brand Changan (distributed by Bugshan Automotive) which sold a few hundred vehicles in June alone.

By segment, the passenger vehicle (PV) segment declined by 0.24% to 74,048 units, while sales of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) recorded an increase of 14.54% to 8,238 units, according to AIVAM. In detail, Dacia maintains its stranglehold on the passenger vehicle segment, with a market share (PDM) of 26.65%, or 19,732 new registrations since the beginning of the year, followed by Renault which sold 11,657 units (15.74% PDM) and Hyundai (5,933 units and 8.01% PDM).

In the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, Renault took the top spot with 2,040 units, or 24.76% of market share, ahead of Ford, which saw its sales climb to 1,138 units (13.81% of market share) and DFSK (963 units for 11.69% of market share). Finally, in the premium segment, Audi achieved a market share of 3.04% with 2,252 cars sold, ahead of BMW (2,055 units and 2.78% of market share) and Mercedes-Benz (1,505 units and 2.03% of market share).
