The 2024 Jean Dumur Prize was awarded to Isabelle Ducret. The investigative journalist has worked since 2011 for the RTS show Temps Present. The award will be presented to him on Wednesday, during a ceremony organized at the Foyer of the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
This year, the jury chose to recognize a woman with an exemplary professional background in the service of investigative journalism, the Swiss Press Club wrote in a press release on Monday. The Friends of Jean Dumur salute Isabelle Ducret as a “go-getter, tenacious, rigorous, precise” person, solid in her investigations.
Beginnings in the written press
Born in 1969 in Geneva, Isabelle Ducret made her journalistic beginnings in the written press, at Courrier, at La Liberté, then as a freelancer. After ten years, in 2002, she joined the news department of French-speaking Swiss Television, before joining the Temps Present team in 2011.
Internationally, she notably covered the conflict in Gaza, the Maidan revolution in Ukraine and the riots in Hong Kong. She won the FIGRA Prize at the 2014 International Festival of Grand Reportage with an investigation entitled “Against Nestlé until death” and the Suva Media Grand Prize in 2023.
“Infinitely honored” by the distinction
“The Jean Dumur Prize has a very particular value in recognizing essential journalism values which are precious to me, such as the search for truth and independence,” noted Isabelle Ducret, quoted in the press release. The winner said she was “infinitely honored” by this distinction.
The Jean Dumur Prize was created in 1986 by several French-speaking editors in chief in memory of the journalist and writer Jean Dumur. It rewards a journalist from French-speaking Switzerland who demonstrates journalistic courage, search for truth, independence and clarity of expression. He is endowed with 5000 francs.
