Iconic places or celebrities, events, works of art…

The zero euro note commemorates several important events in our history.

These notes are not used as currency, but are collector’s items.

Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Arromanches Museum… Several emblematic sites of the landing are displayed on curious banknotes to mark the 80th anniversary of the event. Worth zero euros, they also bear the inscription “To all French people”, to recall the famous poster addressed to resistance fighters against the Nazis. Drawings of the landing, the celebration of the Liberation on the Champs-Élysées and even sabotage by the Resistance decorate them.

Watermarks, holograms, security thread, fiduciary inks, individual security number… Despite its nominal value of zero, this note has all these security criteria specific to “real” European notes. The French group Oberthur Fiduciaire, a specialist in printing secure documents and banknotes, has been responsible for its printing since 2015.

Tickets to finance heritage

Note to banknote lovers: many other 0 euro notes, with different designs, circulate in different European countries. They are part of the “Euro Souvenir” collection developed by the company Euro Banknote Memory. The aim is to preserve the memory of historical events, people or works of art. Since 2021, more than 2,500 different notes have been drawn in 30 countries.

Most of the funds raised “contributes to the financing of heritage”assures Richard Faille, president of the company publishing the tickets. These funds allow monuments to invest in particular “in maintenance, in promotion, in renovation”. You can get these commemorative banknotes on the official Euro Souvenir website.
