The Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, affirmed that the promise of the future American president could be very damaging for the Canadian economy.
“This promise from President-elect Donald Trump poses a huge risk to the Quebec and Canadian economies. We must do everything possible to avoid tariffs of 25% on all products we export to the United States. Border integrity must be the priority of the federal government. I offer the full cooperation of the Government of Quebec to Prime Minister Trudeau,” Mr. Legault indicated on his X account.
The Prime Minister of Ontario, Doug Ford, for his part, called for collaboration between all the prime ministers of Canada.
“A 25% tariff will be devastating for workers and jobs in Canada and the United States. The federal government must take the border situation very seriously. Prime Minister Trudeau must organize an emergency call with all the provincial premiers,” he wrote on his X account.
New Democratic Party (NDP) Leader Jagmeet Singh said he believes some Canadians are at risk of losing their jobs.
